Dear trader, dear stock market friends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Dow Jones Index showed some fluctuations last week, but on balance hardly moved and closed the week virtually unchanged. The media focus in the US included the TV debate between Joe Biden and Donald Trump, which also attracted at least brief attention from investors. The likelihood of Trump being elected increased after the TV debate, which Wall Street could well live with. The inflation data published on Friday afternoon was in line with expectations. Hopes of a faster than expected fall in inflation were dampened. Bond prices and share indices fell as a result over the course of the day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/a>Sideways movement continues<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The technical chart of the Dow Jones has not changed much in recent weeks. The index has been moving sideways for around three months now. On the downside, there is an important support area at 37,800 points. On the one hand, this is generated by the horizontal support, on the other hand, the daily EMA 200 is only a few points below the horizontal support and is expected to rise a few more points in the next few days. On the upside, resistance lies between 39,900 and 40,000 points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The declining volatility is also visible in the Bollinger Bands, which are tightening. The weekly chart (below) shows that the Bollinger Bands are currently exactly at the price levels of support and resistance. After a sideways movement, a breakout from the Bollinger Bands usually increases the probability that it will be a sustained breakout and that momentum will pick up again. The longer the phase of low volatility lasts, the stronger the momentum of the subsequent price movement tends to be. The daily chart (above) also shows that the bandwidth of the Bollinger Bands is decreasing. However, a breakout to the downside should be treated with caution here, as the market is still in an intact uptrend on the one hand and the aforementioned support area is waiting a few points further down on the other.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/a>Mixed picture for stocks in the Dow Jones<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Exactly half of all stocks in the Dow Jones closed the past week with price gains, while the other 15 stocks suffered price losses. The five strongest stocks were:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  2. Salesforce (CRM): +4.91 %<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Boeing (BA): +3.09 %<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. J.P. Morgan Chase (JPM): +3.04 %<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  5. Verizon Communications (VZ): +2.49 %<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    <\/a>UnitedHealth Group tops the list of winners<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    The UnitedHealth Group share has been moving sideways for two years now. Following the previous sharp rise in the share price, this can be seen as a broad consolidation. The share appears to be accumulating again at present, as can be seen from the increased buying volume. Even if the share has not yet been able to make any new highs in the current bull market, there is a high probability that a breakout would result in a sustained price movement. Instead of waiting for an upward breakout, an attempt can be made to build up long positions near the support zone in the event of renewed price weakness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    <\/a>Nike share suffers historic loss<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    Nike shares suffered the biggest loss last week. Following the disappointing quarterly results published on Thursday, the stock opened with a massive downward gap on Friday and closed with a historic daily loss of around -20 %. Since its all-time high in 2021, the share has already fallen more than 50 % and has also been unable to benefit from the current year's bull market. Anyone convinced of the company's long-term potential may therefore currently find an attractive entry opportunity. However, due to the technical weakness, waiting for a trend reversal would be the much safer option.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
