Following the turbulence at the beginning of April, the leading German index is now only 1234 points or around 5% below its all-time high in March.

Long-term upward trend line confirmed

In the last two weeks, we have seen impressive recoveries on the global equity markets. The US indices, which had previously come under heavy pressure due to the trade dispute and the new tariffs announced by the US government, have already stabilized significantly.

The market is therefore currently assuming a high probability of further de-escalation with regard to tariffs. Donald Trump already announced last week that further details and new trade deals can be expected in the coming weeks. However, the fronts with China in particular still appear to be hardened, which is why there is still a risk of renewed headwinds for the stock markets.

The DAX fell by more than 20% at its peak in April, but has since stabilized again. In contrast to the US share indices, which had formed clear downward trends, the downward movement in the DAX is merely a secondary downward trend, which represents the correction of the long-term primary upward trend. In addition, the DAX bounced bullishly off the long-term uptrend line, which can therefore be regarded as confirmed.

DAX Index weekly chart

Chart resistance at 22,300 points

As you can see in the daily chart below, the 50-day line in the DAX is still well above the 200-day line, which is a further signal that the long-term trend is unbroken. In order to form a clear downtrend, the DAX would first have to fall below the local low of 18,500 points, which would create a sequence of falling highs and falling lows.

Following the strong rise of the last two weeks, the DAX has reached a short-term technical resistance level: the old support zone at 22,300 points, which was initially tested several times in February and March and ultimately broken through. This old support has now reversed its function and represents at least short-term resistance. A short-term setback would therefore not be unusual, especially as the DAX has already staged an impressive rally in the past two weeks.

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="681" src="https://www.captrader.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/DAX_2025-04-27_17-04-13_9ce66-1024x681.png" alt="A candlestick chart of the DAX index shows the recent price recovery, trading above the moving averages. In the DAX future, you can see the movements and corrections of this subordinate uptrend on the chart below. This trend is currently in an advanced movement phase, which increases the probability of a correction, especially as the DAX is directly in front of resistance, as mentioned above. An important support of the subordinate uptrend is located at around 21,600 points. This is where the last local highs and a gap that has not yet been closed are located.

DAX future (FDAX) hourly chart

Long setups in individual DAX shares

In addition to short-term trades at index level, the current environment lends itself to a targeted search for long setups in individual DAX stocks. While some stocks (e.g. Beiersdorf, Henkel, Merck or Infineon) are in downtrends, we are already seeing some stocks that have reached new highs and formed clear uptrends (for example: Allianz, E.ON, Munich Re or Siemens Energy). Even if it may seem counter-intuitive for some investors, the chances of success are usually better if you buy strength after a correction and avoid weakness. Stocks that are the first to show strength during or after a correction in the broad market are often among the leading stocks even when the overall market reaches new highs again.

Author Tobias Schmid
Date: 28.04.2025

Liebe Trader, liebe Börsenfreunde.
