This gave the Dow its strongest weekly performance since November. The decisive sentiment factor was the easing of geopolitical tensions: markets reacted very sensitively to progress around the fragile ceasefire between the US and Iran during the week. The sharp decline in oil prices, in particular, provided relief, as it somewhat eased concerns about a persistent energy and inflation shock. WTI and Brent both lost more than 12 %during the week, which was an important signal of relief, especially for cyclical and transport-related stocks.

The Dow Jones' technical chart picture has significantly brightened.

From a technical analysis perspective, the picture in the Dow Jones has significantly improved in the past two weeks. Since its all-time high in February at over 50,500 points, the index fell by around 10 %at times to its correction low in March. At first glance, this sounds dramatic, but in the bigger picture, it's nothing unusual in a bull market. The Dow Jones has therefore not completed a structural trend reversal, but has worked through a more extended, but ultimately normal correction.

The correction ran almost precisely to the long-term support at around 45,000 points. You can see how important this horizontal support is on the following weekly chart.

Dow Jones Index weekly chart

Starting from this support zone, the most important resistances and moving averages - especially the 200-day EMA - were also recaptured during the subsequent rally.

Dow Jones Index daily chart

Trend reversal on a secondary trend size

With the upward movement of the past two weeks, a clean secondary uptrend has already been established again, recognizable by the sequence of higher highs and higher lows. This is precisely why the transportation index has always been considered a kind of real economy barometer. The index includes 20 major US transportation stocks from sectors such as railroads, airlines, logistics, and parcel services.

The current strength of the transport index has several reasons: The most important short-term driver was the slump in oil prices after the ceasefire announcement. Airlines, logistics, and other transport companies are benefiting primarily from this, as fuel is a significant cost factor. In addition, with a possible reopening or normalization of energy and trade flows through the Strait of Hormuz, hope for a de-escalation of supply chains and freight costs is returning.

Dow Jones Transportation Index Daily Chart

Author: Tobias Schmid
Date: 04/13/2026

Liebe Trader, liebe Börsenfreunde.
