However, most traders make losses for various reasons\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What is day trading and how do day trading strategies work?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are roughly two groups on the stock market:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Investors are persons who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.captrader.com\/en\/blog\/equity-portfolio\/\">Equity portfolio<\/a> accumulate securities. You benefit from price gains or income from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.captrader.com\/en\/blog\/stocks-with-high-dividends-2\/\">Aktien mit hoher Dividende<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Traders, on the other hand, buy and sell actively and regularly in order to make profits. This group is divided into numerous sub-types, depending on the strategy chosen.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The best-known form of active trading is certainly day trading.<strong> all positions are closed by the end of the trading day at the latest.<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is therefore also referred to as \u201cintraday trading\u201d, as all transactions end within (= intra) one day.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This approach has some particular advantages and disadvantages:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>After the market closes, there are often major fluctuations that only become visible on the next trading day.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Successful day trading strategies avoid precisely this phase and the so-called \u201cswap costs\u201d, as they entail considerable risks.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Through a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.captrader.com\/en\/blog\/short-sale\/\">Short sale<\/a> you can also profit from falling prices.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The short time frames only allow for small profits. Several alternatives use different time frames and therefore achieve a completely different risk\/reward profile:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The slowest form of stock market transactions is investing. In some cases, it can take decades to sell. Anyone who has a<a href=\"https:\/\/www.captrader.com\/en\/blog\/passive-income-through-dividends\/\"> Passive income through dividends<\/a> in some cases never even sells its securities!<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.captrader.com\/en\/blog\/scalping\/\">Scalping<\/a> is even faster: here the short holding periods are taken to the extreme and trades are only held for a few seconds. A high volume of small profits can also generate an attractive return.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>We see the highest speed in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.captrader.com\/en\/blog\/high-frequency-trading\/\">High frequency trading<\/a>. Here we are talking about fractions of a second. Of course, only machines can execute such fast trades.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In contrast, things are more leisurely with the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.captrader.com\/en\/blog\/swing-trading-strategies\/\"> Swing trading strategies<\/a> to. The boundaries between the individual forms are fluid and different perspectives are possible.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Be careful with day trading strategies!<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Day trading strategies are extremely risky: <strong>The vast majority of active traders lose money with these methods. <\/strong>The reason for this lies in the fundamental structure of trading:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Traders need to predict market movements to open lucrative trades<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You can profit from both upward and downward movements through investments and short sales<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Even in the case of steady \u201csideways markets\u201d, traders can <a href=\"https:\/\/www.captrader.com\/en\/blog\/trade-options\/\">Trade options<\/a> and thus also generate profits<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Successful forecasts\/trades can result in larger profits, while losses due to failures are limited in good time<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>This should result in a positive overall result<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>A correct forecast is always necessary for trading success!<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By comparison, investors invest through their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.captrader.com\/en\/blog\/equity-portfolio\/\">Equity portfolio<\/a> in companies. They offer extraordinary advantages and disadvantages:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Unlimited trading hours<\/strong>: Buying and selling is possible around the clock, even at weekends<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Extreme volatility:<\/strong> Depending on the currency, exchange rate fluctuations of several hundred percent are possible within a few minutes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Derivatives trading preferred:<\/strong> Day traders prefer to use derivatives such as futures or ETNs to trade cryptocurrencies.
