In the new trading week, investors are likely to focus in particular on the US Federal Reserve meeting in the middle of the week. Stock markets around the world are waiting for the long-awaited interest rate turnaround in the United States. In a generally manageable economic data calendar, it is nevertheless important to keep an eye on other important economic data.<\/p>\n
Following the publication of new US inflation data from the previous week, investors have not really gained any new insights into possible interest rate cuts. In August, the inflation rate fell to 2.5%, after 2.9% in July. However, the core rate of inflation, which is decisive for the Fed, remained at 3.2% compared to the same month last year. On a monthly comparison, the rate even rose by 0.3%, which can be explained not least by the rise in rents.<\/p>\n
According to the CME Group's \"Fed Watch Tool\", there is a 59% chance of a rate cut of 50 basis points two days before the Fed meeting. It remains to be seen whether the Fed will actually be tempted to make an XXL rate cut.<\/p>\n
Attention is not likely to turn to new retail sales figures for the United States until Tuesday (2:30 pm). Compared to the previous month, an increase of just 0.2 percent is expected for August, following a previous increase of one percent. Should there be a disappointment, the smouldering recession worries could also pick up speed again in this context.<\/p>\n
In the first half of the week, the eagerly awaited Fed meeting is also likely to cast its shadow. The announcement of the key interest rate decision is on the agenda for Wednesday at 20:00. From 20:30, the FOMC press conference with Jerome Powell will be tapped for monetary policy clues.<\/p>\n
On Thursday, the focus is usually on US initial jobless claims (14:30).<\/p>\n
