Developments in China with regard to economic stimulus packages could also provide a boost. After numerous economic data releases last week, the next five trading days will be relatively manageable from the perspective of the economic data calendar.

Joy over US reporting season could continue

The joy over strong bank balance sheets could resonate into the new trading week. JPMorgan and Wells Fargo reported good business in investment banking on Friday.

The recently dampened interest rate cut fantasies in the US are therefore likely to be capped for the time being. Mixed inflation figures last Thursday had fueled concerns that the Fed might take its time in cutting interest rates after all.

Stimulus from China conceivable - Fed representatives have their say

Economic data from China could initially provide impetus on Monday. Data on imports, exports and the trade balance are expected.
According to media reports, interest rates for real estate loans will also be reduced from October 25.

Throughout the day, Fed Representative Kashkari (3:00 p.m./3:00 p.m./Minneapolis) and Governor Christopher Waller could provide momentum.

On Tuesday, Mary Daly (5:30 p.m./San Francisco) will be joined by Governor Adriana Kugler (7:00 p.m.).

ECB decides on monetary policy on Thursday - Fed meets on November 7

Investors should also keep an eye on developments in the eurozone. On Thursday, the European Central Bank (ECB) will meet to decide on the key interest rate. It is expected to cut the relevant deposit rate by 25 basis points to a level of 3.25 percent.

In the US, the Federal Reserve does not meet again until November 7 to decide on the future shape of monetary policy. Market participants are currently betting on a reduction of 25 units.

On the US side, new retail sales data is likely to provide impetus at 14:30. In this case, an increase of 0.3% is expected compared to the previous month (previously: 0.1%).

The weekly initial claims for US unemployment benefits could also move at the same time. Last Thursday, these were particularly strong, which not least fueled concerns about a downturn in the labour market.

Chinese economic data likely to provide impetus - More major US banks open their books

There could be monetary policy stimuli from Fed member Goolsbee (15:00/Chicago) and on Friday from Neel Kashkari (16:00), Christopher Waller and Raphael Bostic from the Atlanta Fed branch.

Important Chinese data (04:00) such as gross domestic product (GDP), retail trade and industrial production are likely to attract a great deal of interest.

In the current reporting season, attention will turn to the figures from Bank of America, Citigroup and Goldman Sachs on Tuesday. Morgan Stanley and Netflix will report on Thursday and American Express and Procter & Gamble, for example, on Friday.

Investors are likely to be hoping for convincing corporate figures in the new trading week and thus a continuation of the recent record-breaking run on Wall Street.
