On the one hand, attention is likely to be focused on the US presidential election on Tuesday. On Thursday, the US Federal Reserve will meet to decide on the direction of monetary policy. The reporting season should also continue to provide impetus with figures from the second and third tiers.

Head-to-head race between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump - increased volatility conceivable

The US presidential election could not only decide the weal and woe of the new trading week, but also beyond. For months, Republican Donald Trump and Democrat Kamala Harris have been locked in a neck-and-neck race, leaving it completely open as to who will move into the White House in the future.
In view of the uncertainty surrounding the future formation of a government, investors should generally be prepared for increased volatility.

From the perspective of the economic data calendar, however, the focus on Tuesday will be on new data from China (02:45). The so-called Caixin index for the services sector could provide important data in the night from Monday to Tuesday.

ECB President Christine Lagarde will speak in the afternoon (15:30). The ISM non-manufacturing index will be in focus at 16:00.

Future government formation could drag on - additional uncertainty possible

The first trends in the US presidential election results could emerge as early as Tuesday night, so investors should keep an eye on developments.

If there is no clear election result for the time being, there is a risk of a hung parliament with further uncertainty for the markets. On the other hand, a clear election winner should provide relief.

Investors expect another interest rate cut of 25 basis points - Powell rhetoric in focus

Despite a manageable first half of the week from the perspective of the economic data calendar, the US election could cause turbulence.

The Fed meeting scheduled for Thursday is also likely to cast its shadow. While the announcement of the key interest rate decision is expected at 20:00, the FOMC press conference with Jerome Powell is scheduled for 20:30.
Market participants currently expect the Fed to lower interest rates by 25 basis points and adjust the interest rate band accordingly to between 4.25 and 4.50 percent.

Powell's speech is likely to be of greater significance, as it could provide important clues about future interest rate decisions. It is quite possible that the Fed will again adjust interest rates downwards on December 18 and thus at the last meeting of the year.

Focus on consumer sentiment data and quarterly figures from the second and third series

On Friday, preliminary data on consumer sentiment from Michigan will be published (16:00).

On Monday, for example, investors will be looking at Palantir's figures and on Wednesday at those of Novo Nordisk and AMC-Entertainment. On Thursday, Moderna, Airbnb and Pinterest will report.

In the new trading week, investors will have to deal with several important key events.
