In the run-up to the meeting, investors may tend to keep their feet still. Trump recently said at a press conference that he first wanted to see what Putin had in mind. The US president is aiming for a ceasefire and the "best deal" for both sides, it was said.

Inflation data could fuel interest rate cut fantasies - consumer prices lower than expected

Market participants are likely to be driven by the US inflation data published on Tuesday, which at 2.7% (compared to the same month of the previous year) was as high as in June and therefore below expectations (2.8%). However, the core rate of inflation, which excludes the drivers energy and food, stood at 3.1% and was therefore above estimates (3.0%).

The CME Group's "Fed Watch Tool" currently estimates the chance of a rate cut of 25 basis points at the Fed's upcoming meeting on September 17, 2025 at 96.2 percent.

Focus on US producer prices on Thursday - further monetary policy signals possible

From an economic calendar perspective, Thursday is likely to be another exciting day with important US price data.
