US inflation at 4.2 percent, highest level in three years<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Investors' focus last Wednesday was primarily on US consumer prices, which, at 4.2 percent, were as high as expected (previously 3.8 percent), but represent the highest level in three years. In this context, the US Federal Reserve (Fed) may soon be under pressure to raise interest rates to combat inflation.<\/p>\n

The core inflation rate was 2.9 percent, also as high as expected (previously: 2.8 percent).<\/p>\n

ECB raises deposit rate by 25 basis points to 2.25 percent<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Thursday, however, was entirely dominated by the ECB's monetary policy meeting. As expected, the European monetary authority raised interest rates by a quarter of a percentage point, tightening the screw on borrowing costs. The deposit rate, which is significant for banks and savers, was raised by 25 basis points to 2.25 percent, as announced by the ECB Governing Council in Frankfurt am Main.
\nAccording to an initial estimate by the EU statistical office Eurostat, inflation in May was 3.2 percent, significantly above the medium-term target of 2.0 percent.<\/p>\n

According to the latest data, US producer prices climbed by 1.1 percent (compared to the same month last year), significantly more than expected (0.7 percent), following a 1.1 percent increase previously. The background for the rise is the again increasing energy costs. In May, prices rose by 6.5 percent year-on-year, as announced by the Department of Labor in Washington. US producer prices are closely watched, not least with a view to the development of consumer prices.<\/p>\n

From an economic calendar perspective, things could get interesting this afternoon with the consumer sentiment data (Uni Michigan) at 4:00 PM.<\/p>\n

SpaceX's expected trading start casts a shadow<\/strong><\/h2>\n

However, the focus today is on the planned stock market launch of the AI and space company SpaceX, which aims to raise up to $86 billion. The company is expected to debut with a valuation of $1.77 trillion, making it the seventh most valuable publicly traded company in the US. The shares are set to launch on the US technology exchange NASDAQ under the ticker \u201eSPCX\u201c (ISIN: US84615Q1031).
\nLast year, SpaceX recorded a loss of approximately $4.94 billion on revenue of $18.67 billion.<\/p>\n
