by Jean-Marie Eveillard is described by the author himself as his memoirs. He is considered the French Warren Buffett and one of the best value investors of all time. In this book, he vividly describes his journey from a rank beginner to a giant of value investing. He tells various little anecdotes about his successful or less successful investments and is very critical of himself. This makes him seem human and down-to-earth right from the start.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Already in the foreword he names two characteristics of value investing that every investor should take to heart:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  2. Value-Investing funktioniert dauerhaft.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    These statements should now make stock market enthusiasts - with plenty of free time - hungry to learn more about the subject. But all other investors who pursue purely passive approaches would also do well to take a closer look at this topic in order to at least understand what the stock market game is all about at its core.<\/p>\n\n\n

    But if you are expecting this book to provide you with the content you need, I'm afraid I have to disappoint you. At the same time, I give the Frenchman credit for referring to his world-famous colleagues Benjamin Graham and Warren Buffett on this issue. In particular, he calls Graham's book, \"Intelligent Investing,\" the best book on investing ever written. Otherwise, he says, almost all other books on investing aren't even worth the paper they're printed on. In fact, most of them would even be misleading.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Thus, his intention with this book is to distinguish his own approach from the two and rather to report from his life, instead of telling the philosophy behind it a second time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Along the way, he has always been accompanied by Graham's phrase: \"In the short term, the market is a voting machine, but in the long term, it's a weighting machine.\" Yet he does not describe himself as infallible or perfect, admitting that he has never bought an entire position at the lowest price, let alone sold it at the highest. If he had succeeded, it had just been luck. For him it was always important in all his stations as an active fund manager not to build up index clones, as is often seen in the market.<\/p>\n\n\n

    However, over the course of time, he experienced firsthand that the value investing approach was not always the first choice of investors. During the dotcom boom, for example, he lost almost all his investors because they got carried away by the run on technology stocks and turned their backs on his fund. It was only after the crash that his fund recovered and investors came back when they understood that his approach was the superior one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    In this context, he also addressed the question of why there are so few value investors out there after all, if the approach works. He answers it with the enormous amount of work and financial knowledge that is needed to create the sound analyses. Most shy away from this and prefer to try to get rich quickly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    If you also just want to get rich quickly, this is certainly not the right book and also for people who want to get into the implementation it is not fit. For me, it is simply an entertaining book a la Kostolany.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
