by Gerd Kommer is now the last book by the author that I had not yet reviewed. And how could it be otherwise, this work also receives a well-deserved five stars from me and thus the top mark. For years I have been recommending this book as the best financial book for beginners in my opinion and it was certainly not surprising that my assessment is particularly positive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gerd Kommer is not only for me, but probably for a broad mass one of the most influential financial experts in the country - thank God! From the crowd of dazzlers, rednecks and glass-ball investors, he exudes pleasant composure and scientific foundation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"Because I have often heard from investment novices that the book is too demanding and too long for them, I have now written this easy-to-understand and shorter beginner's version. However, it is \"complete\" in the sense that a complete and immediately implementable investment strategy is first justified and then presented here. Reading the \"advanced volume\" is not necessary for understanding and implementing Sovereign Investing for Beginners.\"<\/em><\/p>\nGerd Kommer<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n

This book is most likely also in the wake of feedback on his standard work Sovereign Investing<\/em> emerged. Many readers have repeatedly confirmed to me that it can be quite demanding for beginners. So Gerd Kommer got to work and created a beginner's version of his exceptional book of over 400 pages to pick up even more people and take away the fear of investing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is certainly a first good and important help to avoid the most common mistakes in investing, does not overwhelm even complete beginners and helps to learn to understand the interrelationships in the industry. After reading this book, you will certainly no longer fall for resourceful consultants, bloggers or magazines, but will be able to view the financial industry a little more transparently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As is well known, their target group is primarily those who have little or no investment knowledge and are looking for support in their start in the world of wealth creation and retirement planning. And it is precisely to these people that this book is addressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So if your aunt, cousin, sister, friend, or even mother is an avid reader, and you've probably overheard her having rather awkward conversations with advisors, why not give her this book, read it with her, and take your finances into your own hands?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is simply not as difficult as the financial industry would like to sell us. After all, why should we still consult advisors and experts when we have already understood and can do without them? Why should we still follow financial bloggers or subscribe to stock market magazines when we have understood that it is much more relaxed and promising to invest passively and that we spend our time with more important things than searching for the next Amazon share?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"Saving and investing with ETFs, as outlined and recommended here, is surprisingly straightforward. This approach is easier and takes less time to implement than any other form of long-term investing beyond a checking and savings account. It's easier than buying and financing an owner-occupied property and much, much easier than investing in rental properties.\"<\/em><\/p>\nGerd Kommer<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n

It is certainly not at all in the interests of 90 percent of the financial sector that this book and the knowledge it contains should be disseminated particularly widely. The more eagerly ETFs are attempted to be defamed as a financial instrument with hair-raising arguments, the more amusing are the appearances of financial experts in social media with statements such as \"I don't invest in ETFs because my individual stocks have generated higher returns ...\"<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the end, however, you only need to understand how all these people earn their money. From this point on, it is absolutely clear that you should not have paid any attention to them in the first place. Instead, books like this one or the works of Pirmin Hotz and Nikolaus Braun will help you to take a closer look at the industry and draw the right conclusions for your further actions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gerd Kommer provides a simple, completely forecast-free, non-speculative investment approach. He bases his approach on established scientific findings and not - as is unfortunately the case not only with most other finance books, but with the vast majority in the financial industry - on the opinion of individual \"experts\".<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At this point, I would also like to make a small excursion into the field of science: There are not several sciences, there is only one science and it works in scientific discourse. Findings are constantly tested, contrasted, verified, rejected and commented on. The things that Gerd Kommer describes are based on these scientific findings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"Anyone who takes these research findings seriously can really only conclude that passive investing is the superior alternative.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

As William Sharpe, winner of the Nobel Prize for Economics, showed in a famous essay in 1991, it is a mathematical necessity that the average passive investor achieves a higher net return than the average active investor, provided that one calculates and compares correctly, namely in the way that science does, and not in the way that is common in the financial industry (Sharpe 1991). And the longer the observation period, the higher the average passive investor climbs in the return ranking of all comparable investors.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A passive investor is very likely to end up in the top 10 % of an adequate peer group after 10+ years. An active investor has a high probability of ending up somewhere in the bottom 90 % of an adequate peer group after 10+ years and a probability of over 100% in the bottom 50 %.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

One could formulate this somewhat paradoxically: Passive investing means targeting the average in order to arrive above the average. The main reason for this is the much lower cost of passive investing. Table 5 summarizes some keywords around active and passive investing.\"<\/em> <\/p>\nGerd Kommer<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

In terms of content, this book will provide you with a concise guide on why you should save, invest and invest in the first place. You will learn what ETFs are, why they can be so useful, but also basic information about wealth creation, debt reduction, human capital, realistic return expectations, real estate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
