THE WOLF OF WALL STREET by Jordan Belfort is the world famous story of the Wall Street icon. I'd say pretty much all of you have seen, or at least thought about seeing, the accompanying movie by Martin Scorsese starring Leonardo Di Caprio. This is now the book to the movie, which is not 100% but already in large parts in line with the movie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Like the movie, this book is not for children and certainly not for people who cannot cope with the almost realistic descriptions. The actions are deeply despicable, sexist, misogynistic, antisocial and criminal. But they are depictions based on true events, which is why I'm certainly not going to deduct any points for them. That's just the way it was and in some areas it's still the way it is today - albeit somewhat toned down - in a similar way. You can close your eyes to it or simply accept it.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

\"This book contains my memoirs. It is a true story and is based on my best recollections of various events in my life. Where indicated, the names and distinguishing characteristics of individuals have been changed to preserve their anonymity. Just recently, I heard more insider stories that made me wonder in all seriousness whether these people are still in their right mind. But money acts as a magnifying glass on people's character traits, and greed is not one of the seven deadly sins without reason.
In the 1990s, Jordan Belfort was the icon of Wall Street. He was a tough stock market shark, stone-cold swindler and party-hard junkie. At the age of 26, he had already become a multimillionaire and let everyone around him know it. Both his oversized ego and his fortune were more than on display.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Belfort describes his experiences in an open and honest way that allows the reader to experience both his highs and his lows. He describes how he started his own stock firm and how he managed to get his clients to invest in stocks that he had either manipulated himself or that were little more than low-quality penny stocks. It is impressive how he managed to be so successful despite repeatedly maneuvering himself into difficult situations - whether through alcohol, drugs or other escapades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As is so often the case, pure economic success was no longer enough to give him the kick he needed. He describes how he wanted more and more money and power and how he was finally overwhelmed by his own success. And so his everyday life was marked by prostitutes, drugs, parties, expensive cars, villas, boats and helicopter flights. Both the book and the film paint a picture of a wannabe rock star who throws money around in a decadent manner and unscrupulously pulls money out of the pockets of others.<\/p>\n\n\n

The logical conclusion was not long in coming. At the age of 36, Jordan Belfort ended up in prison. It seems like the autobiography of the real Gordon Gekko and presents a picture of this industry that could hardly have been drawn more depraved.
\"You're even lower than scum,\" my new boss said as he gave me my first tour of what he called the Board Room, the management floor of LF Rothschild. \"You have a problem with that, Jordan?\" \"No,\" I returned, \"no problem.\" \"Good,\" he snapped, and just kept walking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We traversed a labyrinth of brown mahogany desks and black telephone cables on the 23rd floor of a glass and aluminum tower that rose 41 stories above New York's legendary Fifth Avenue. The Board Room was spacious and measured perhaps 15 by 2 meters. It was an oppressive room, crammed with desks, telephones, computer screens and a lot of really obnoxious yuppies, 7o in all. They had taken off their jackets and at this hour -
9:20 a.m. - they leaned back in their chairs, read the Wall Street Journal and congratulated themselves on being the masters of the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Being one of the gentlemen of the world seemed like a noble goal, and as I walked past the gentlemen in my cheap blue suit and clunky kicks, I wished I was one of them. But my new boss quickly reminded me that I wasn't. \"Your job\" - he looked at the plastic name tag on my lapel - \"Jordan Belfort, is that of an operator, and that means you make 500 phone calls a day.\"<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At this point a few words about the author:<\/strong>
Jordan Belfort was born in 1962 in the Queens borough of New York. He studied at American University and earned millions as a broker on Wall Street at the age of 26. At 36, he was arrested for his criminal activities and spent the rest of his life in prison. Today he lives as a successful motivational speaker in Los Angeles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a way, this story reminds me of so many people in the industry, which I think is far too quick to forgive and basically doesn't assume a high set of values either. How can it be, please, that a person who brings such unsavory character traits is still celebrated in such a way today. You can certainly learn something from every person, but you don't have to celebrate him because of that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The rush for tickets to his seminars after the film was simply unbelievable. The interested parties have been running the place and even if he should have given away everything of his wealth at that time, he will have provided for himself again now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An incredible story. You don't have to agree with everything the author and his companions have done over time. The story is certainly sexist, misogynistic, drug glorifying, in large parts disgusting and vile, but it just reflects at least to some extent the reality and everyday life in a poisoned swamp of greedy people without too much value framework.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It offers a fascinating insight into the world of the financial markets and shows that behind the glitz and glamour there can also be a lot of darkness and scandal. It is also an inspiring read for anyone who wants to learn more about life on Wall Street. A clear recommendation for fans of business autobiographies and for anyone looking for an entertaining and educational read.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In parts, I personally - and that's saying something - would rather prefer the film than the book. But I can also say that in general about almost all books that were first filmed and then published. The plot is not identical to the movie, but if you've seen it, you'll recognize pretty much everything. That's why you don't necessarily have to read it if you've already seen the movie.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
