This compact, beautifully designed yet comprehensive guide introduces young people and especially young adolescents to the world of finance. Starting with simple money terms through to complex topics such as shares and cryptocurrencies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The authors Christine Bortenl\u00e4nger and Franz-Josef Leven take their readers on an exciting journey through the financial universe. Different chapters each deal with an aspect or a central and common question on the respective topic. From the fundamental question \"What is money?\" to modern money production and ways of earning and growing money.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In some places, however, the questions were very specific and sometimes really complex. This made it difficult for me to identify a specific target group, especially in view of the rather childish design. In terms of layout, I would anticipate at least a somewhat younger target group than seems appropriate in terms of content. I don't dare to judge whether they have done themselves a favor with a rather childish design. But I at least question it once.<\/p>\n\n\n

However, the accessible language and the authors' ability to explain complex concepts in a simple and understandable way should be emphasized. Using examples from everyday life and vivid analogies, they make difficult financial topics tangible. This makes even the most abstract concept understandable, be it inflation or how investment vehicles work. For me, it's just perfect, as there is a lack of such explanations in the linear education system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, I would particularly like to emphasize the breadth of the subject area covered. With just over 150 pages, you might think that the book would concentrate on just a few aspects. But this is by no means the case. Instead, one question follows another. And the authors find suitable, easy-to-understand answers to all of them, even if they don't always go all the way to the big bang: everything is covered, from traditional forms of investment such as savings accounts and shares to modern developments such as cryptocurrencies and digital payment methods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The authors do not shy away from highlighting the risks of these forms of investment. This makes the book an honest guide for young readers who want to take their first steps into the world of finance. Or at least want to acquire valuable basic knowledge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another plus point of the book is the interspersed questions and food for thought, which are intended to stimulate reflection and deepen understanding. This interactive approach makes the book not only informative, but also entertaining and practical. Especially for young readers, of course, but also to discover together with parents or friends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A few words about the authors at this point:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Christine Bortenl\u00e4nger was Managing Director of Deutsches Aktieninstitut from September 2012 to June 2024. Prior to that, she held a leading position at Bayerische B\u00f6rse AG for 14 years. She is the author of several business books and is actively involved in promoting financial education. As a member of various supervisory boards, she continues to contribute to the development and regulation of the financial market. Her extensive experience and commitment to financial education make her an important voice in the German financial landscape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Franz-Josef Leven has experienced the highs and lows of the capital market at Deutsches Aktieninstitut since 1989. In addition to his work as a member of the Supervisory Board, he is also a book author and lecturer at the University of Liechtenstein and the U3L at Goethe University Frankfurt. Leven emphasizes the importance of economic education as the basis for democracy and a social market economy. His extensive knowledge and many years of experience make him an important promoter of financial education in Germany.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How do you pay with money? Is everything money that you can use to calculate, pay or save? Can you buy anything with money? How are prices created? Can you bathe in money? How has money developed over time? Are tulip bulbs money? What was the first money? Why is a piece of paper accepted as money? Minting coins, striking coins - what does that mean? Why were the images of kings and empresses often embossed on coins? Do all euro coins look the same? Is money always worth the same and what is inflation? Money rules the world - is that true? ...\"<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n

Even at first glance, I noticed the wonderful design of this financial book for children and young people. However, as I have already mentioned above, I would say that it looks a little more childish than its content. So it may miss the target group somewhat. At least I would like to give the authors and the publisher this thought.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Personally, I really like the wild cover and the title is also self-explanatory and resonant. The spot varnish on the cover feels just as good and makes the elements look even better. The binding is also pleasant and will forgive the odd more robust handling. Inside, this elaborate design continues and leads to many small details such as reflection questions, tasks, digressions, calculations, etc. In terms of content, the answers to the most common questions are definitely not just short and flat. Rather, the authors have obviously thought about their target group and considered how to encourage them to participate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Just over 150 pages then cost just 16.95 euros. Certainly not cheap for readers of otherwise unadorned works. But anyone who, like me, has been allowed to take a look behind the scenes knows that this is very reasonable for such an elaborately designed book.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In terms of content, it covers a really wide range of typical questions about money. And it is written at a level that even schoolchildren can understand. It therefore has the potential to compensate for the lack of financial education in our schools. In terms of content, I think it is suitable for children aged 10-14. Visually, however, it probably appeals more to children aged 6-10. But as I haven't had much contact with children in these age groups myself, I may be completely wrong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It also reminded me a little of a well-known series of knowledge books for children. I'm sure many people will know which one I'm talking about.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A very successful and definitely recommendable work, which not only children but also their parents can learn a lot from. It also deals with some of the more complex topics. But always at a level that remains manageable even for beginners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Overall All money or what<\/em> is an indispensable companion for young people who want to understand how money works and how they can use it wisely. It impresses with its clear structure, comprehensibility and practice-oriented approach. Whether as an introduction for newcomers or as a reference work for advanced students, this book offers valuable insights for anyone who wants to advance their financial education, while always remaining lively and up-to-date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is particularly recommended for parents and teachers. This book can help children and young people on their way to a solid financial education. You may even learn a thing or two yourself.
