writer transactions in the performance report"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Options and option writer transactions (short options) are shown in the performance report depending on the&nbsp;<strong>Product type<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>Jurisdiction<\/strong>&nbsp;depicted differently.<br>The aim is to&nbsp;<strong>economic presentation<\/strong>, which&nbsp;<strong>Roughly on the tax regulations<\/strong>&nbsp;of the respective jurisdiction without adopting it in full.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Important categories in the report:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>OPT<\/strong> - \u201eNormal\" options transactions (long\/short, depending on country)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Premium<\/strong> - Option writer premiums (short options) for German clients<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Worthless<\/strong> - positions that have expired worthless (e.g. certain warrants or options)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"grundprinzipien-der-abbildung\">Basic principles of mapping<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:15px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"deutschland-de-\">Germany (DE)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For German clients, the performance report is roughly based on the logic of German tax law:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Long options (call\/put)<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The P&amp;L of normal long option trades is shown after the sale in the category <strong>Options<\/strong> shown.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If option positions <strong>exercised<\/strong>, the value of the option is usually included in the <strong>Cost price of the underlying asset<\/strong> (e.g. the share) are included.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A direct profit\/loss from the option is then <strong>not separate<\/strong> The change in value is shown later in the <strong>Sale of the share<\/strong> in der Kategorie <strong>\u201eShares\"<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Short options (option writer transactions)<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>When opening a short option, the customer receives a <strong>Premium<\/strong>, which in Germany <strong>already at opening<\/strong> is considered economically realized.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the performance report, this premium is shown as <strong>\u201ePremium profit\"<\/strong> in der Kategorie <strong>\u201ePremium\"<\/strong> recorded.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If a short option is closed out (repurchased), this may result in a <strong>Premium loss<\/strong>, which is also in the category <strong>\u201ePremium\"<\/strong> is shown.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If there is a <strong>Assignment<\/strong> (allotment\/exercise), the original premium profit remains; the shares are recognized at the <strong>Strike price<\/strong> booked in.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Result:<br>The category&nbsp;<strong>\u201ePremium\"<\/strong>&nbsp;German customers show the&nbsp;<strong>Realized P&amp;L from option writer transactions<\/strong>, while long options can be used in other categories (e.g. equities) depending on their performance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Important:<\/strong> If a short option is held over the turn of the year and then repurchased, the premium gain arises in the old year and the premium loss (repurchase) in the new year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"-sterreich-at-und-andere-jurisdiktionen\">Austria (AT) and other jurisdictions<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>In the <strong>Austrian variant<\/strong> of the performance report, options are <strong>uniformly under \u201eOPT\"<\/strong> led.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The special German distinction between <strong>Premium<\/strong> and <strong>OPT<\/strong> not applicable.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The international report also shows option transactions without the separate premium category.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"typische-beispiele\">Typical examples<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:15px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"1-gekaufte-call-option-long-call-aus-bung-in-aktien\">1. purchased call option (long call), exercised in shares<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Initial situation:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>You buy a <strong>Call<\/strong> on one share.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The call will be made later <strong>exercised<\/strong>, you will receive the share.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Presentation in the performance report (DE logic, simplified):<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The premium paid for the call flows into the <strong>Cost price of the share<\/strong> one.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It takes place <strong>No separate option gain\/loss<\/strong> in the \u201eOPT\" category at the exercise date.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Only if you sell the share later will the resulting profit\/loss appear in the category <strong>\u201eShares\"<\/strong>, including the option price originally paid.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Consequence:<\/strong> Clients sometimes expect an \u201eoption gain\" in the report - in many cases this is actually <strong>indirectly via the share P&amp;L<\/strong> pictured.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"2-gekaufte-put-option-long-put-wertloser-verfall\">2. purchased put option (long put), worthless expiry<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Initial situation:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>You buy a <strong>Put<\/strong> for security and let him <strong>expired worthless<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Presentation in the performance report:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The option premium paid appears after expiry as a <strong>Loss<\/strong> in der Kategorie <strong>Worthless<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It takes place <strong>No transmission<\/strong> to a share position, as no exercise has taken place.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"3-stillhaltergesch-ft-short-put-oder-short-call-keine-zuteilung\">3. writer transaction (short put or short call), no allocation<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Initial situation:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>You write (sell) a <strong>Put<\/strong> or <strong>Call<\/strong> and receive a bonus.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The option is <strong>not exercised<\/strong> and expires.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Presentation in the performance report (DE logic):<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Already at <strong>Opening<\/strong> of the short option, the premium amount in the category <strong>\u201ePremium\"<\/strong> as <strong>Profit<\/strong> recorded.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If the option expires at a later date, this profit is retained; the option is <strong>No further income statement entry<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With a later&nbsp;<strong>Smoothing<\/strong>&nbsp;(repurchase of the option), the repurchase amount would be recognized as&nbsp;<strong>Premium loss<\/strong>&nbsp;appear in the same category.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"4-stillhaltergesch-ft-mit-assignment-z-b-short-put-aktie-eingebucht-\">4. writer transaction with assignment (e.g. short put, share booked)<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Initial situation:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>You are <strong>Writer of a put<\/strong> (short put), receive a premium.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The market falls, the put is exercised and you are sold shares. <strong>booked in<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Presentation in the performance report (DE logic):<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The <strong>Premium profit<\/strong> remains in the category <strong>\u201ePremium\"<\/strong> exist.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The shares are sold at <strong>Strike price<\/strong> The subsequent gain\/loss from this share position is recognized in the income statement. <strong>separately in the category \u201eShares\"<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The option P&amp;L is <strong>not fully transferred to the shares<\/strong>, unlike in the IB account statement.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the Austrian variant (AT), the option P&amp;L is typically&nbsp;<strong>always transferred to the shares<\/strong>, similar to the account statement.
