SELECTION INTO YOUR CAPTRADER-DEPOT

The Secure Login system adds an extra level of protection to your account by using the CapTrader App on their smartphone, which thus acts as a security device, or the use of a physical security card provided free of charge¹, the Digital Security Card + (for accounts with balances of USD 1,000,000 or more).

The simple method of entering a randomly generated security code along with your username and password is a great advantage in terms of protecting your account, even though it requires an extra step to log into your account.

The use of an additional security device is accompanied by a higher payout limit per day and per week.

Even if you have multiple accounts, you only need one device. You can use the security device for different usernames registered to the same account holder.

Remember, even if an online hacker or identity fraudster gets hold of your username and password, they will still NOT be able to log into your account without physical access to the security device.

THE ADDITIONAL SECURITY METHODS

Authentication via CapTrader app

App authentication enables two-factor authentication for your account via appwhich you can download to your Android or iOS smartphone. A PIN code, facial recognition, or fingerprint is required to use app authentication.

Physical security card

Digital Security Card+ - Available for accounts with balances greater than $1,000,000. The use of a PIN, a verification number, and a larger total number of possible number combinations further enhances the protection feature.

Temporary mobile two-factor authentication (when opening a securities account)

During the account opening procedure, you will be asked to confirm a cell phone number in order to proceed. This will activate two-factor protection via SMS messages. CapTrader will send you a unique PIN when you log in.
However, mobile two-factor authentication is temporary and will be disabled once you enable one of the other two digital or physical security devices described here.

From the moment you log in, our account protection features kick in to make sure your account is always protected. Two-factor authentication

Factor 1: An individual username and password combination is required to access each account.

 

Factor 2: The Secure Login System. The security device used provides a randomly generated security code. This security code is entered together with your user name and password to gain access to secured system areas.

Secure Socket Layer (SSL)

We use 2048-bit EV Certificates, with TLS 128-bit or higher encryption, to establish a secure connection and ensure the confidentiality and integrity of data exchanged between your computer and us. Enable SSL by checking the "Use SSL" checkbox in the TWS login dialog box. The use of SSL may affect the performance of your PC, depending on your equipment.

Automated control systems ensure that only strong encryption algorithms are used.

We enforce the use of encryption for all website traffic.

EV (Extended Validation) technology verifies that you are on a protected website.

Login limitation

Restrict access to the TWS to a well-defined list of IP addresses. In cases where multiple traders have access to an account, these restrictions can be set at the individual user level.

Failed login attempts

After a certain number of failed login attempts, we restrict account access for security reasons.

Automatic logout

We have set up an auto-logout feature so that you are automatically logged out of the application after a certain period of inactivity.

Bank statements

Access to all account statements is via secure login in the account management.

Safety monitoring

We use state-of-the-art transaction monitoring systems and employ a dedicated security team to detect suspicious activity. If a suspicious transaction is detected, a member of this team may contact you to determine if the transaction is legitimate. When contacted by our staff, you will never be asked for your password and we encourage you to call us back and ask to speak to this member of the security team at the toll-free number 1-877-442-2757 to first verify the identity of the caller. If you believe that irregularities have occurred with respect to your account, please notify IB immediately by calling our toll-free number +1 877 442-2757.

Customer warning about so-called identity abuse

For some time now, Internet criminals have been trying to get interested parties to enter into account relationships and/or make money transfers by pretending to be someone else. In doing so, they design websites that look deceptively similar to those of financial service providers, banks and other companies and that have a similar web address that often differs from the real web address by only one letter. If a prospective customer makes a typing error, for example, he can get to such a fake homepage and open an "account" there or enter into a "business relationship" with the transfer of sensitive customer data. The money deposited is then usually lost and, in addition, the account data is misused, for example, through direct debits or Internet orders in the name of the customer. Therefore, when entering into a business relationship with CapTrader GmbH and the related banks, please make sure that you are on the correct website.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT THE SECURE-LOGIN-SYSTEM

How can I request a security device?

App: Register and confirm your cell phone number or activate your CapTrader app. To do this, download the iOS version from the App Store or the Android version of Google Play down.

Existing customers with capital in excess of 1,000,000 $ may request a Digital Secure Card+ as an add-on device to their app authentication. If you are interested, please contact the CapTrader customer support.

When will I receive my security device?

Interactive Brokers ships physical security cards daily. The estimated delivery time can vary from a few business days to several weeks depending on your shipping address and local delivery options. The CapTrader app is downloaded directly from the App Store or from Google Play downloaded.

How can I activate the security device?

Log in to the Account Management (Client Portal) and follow the navigation path Settings > User Settings > Secure Login System > Security Device. Follow the instruction steps provided on this page to activate your device.

App users must first download and install the app from the respective store.

Once your security device or digital security app has been activated, each time you log in to the Account Management (Client Portal), the TWS or the trading app, provide two authentication factors - your username and password, and the security code generated by your security device. Once you have successfully logged in, the entire scope of your account is protected and unauthorized access to your cash and securities positions is prevented.

How can I request a replacement device?

If your physical security device is lost, stolen or inoperable, please contact our Customer service.

¹ Please note that while IBKR, as the owner of the physical devices, does not charge a fee for the use of these devices, there may be a replacement fee charged for some types of devices if you lose, damage, or otherwise fail to return your device to IBKR when your account is closed.
