What kind of depot do I need?
At CapTrader you will find the right account type for every requirement. As a private investor, you can choose between a single account or joint account. Or would you like to manage the securities accounts of your family members under one account structure? Even as a company you can trade at CapTrader by opening a company account. You do not want to trade actively yourself, but want to use the know-how of an experienced portfolio manager for your securities account? Then the managed accounts could possibly be the right thing for you.

What documents are needed for opening?
To open a private securities account, we require a valid proof of identity and a current proof of address from you. Please upload these directly in the online application. There is no need to go to the post office (PostIdent procedure).
For your legitimation we need the following two documents from you:
The following are accepted as proof of identity:
- a copy of your passport,
- or a copy of your identity card (front and back),
- Or a copy of your driver's license (must include an expiration date).
The document you send must have a signature and an expiration date.
The following are accepted as proof of address:
- Bank account statement, personal address confirmation from your bank or certificate of registration
These documents may not older than 6 months its - Credit card statement (please not older than 6 weeks)
Please do not take a clipping from your documents. The verification documents must complete and the edges must not be cut off (you can blacken or cover numbers).
In addition, for the opening of the deposit your Tax identification number required. Please have them available when filling out the application.
What type of account should I choose, cash account or margin account?
Depending on the types of securities you wish to trade and whether you may also wish to invest beyond your balance, at CapTrader you generally have a choice of two account types.
The cash account (also called cash account) can be used from the age of 18 for all persons who meet the requirements for opening. Deposited funds can be fully invested and leveraged trading is excluded on a cash account. With the cash account, certain types of securities such as futures and options strategies as well as the Short Selling not possible.
The margin account is available to all persons over the age of 21 who meet the requirements for opening an account. It is possible to invest beyond the deposited balance (margin credit). With the margin account all securities available at CapTrader are tradable (Trading authorizations).

Which base currency should I choose?
As base currency, please always select the currency with which you pay in your tax residence. This selection is important later for your tax information. All types of securities accounts at CapTrader are so-called multi-currency accounts. This means that you can hold different cash balances of different currencies in one securities account, as these are never converted automatically by the account. The base currency of your securities account is the currency in which all holdings are displayed.
The base currency can be set flexibly after opening a securities account in your account management (Client Portal) in the menu item > Account settings changeable.
