General Notes on ETF trading
- Commissions affect all order types.
- All exchange fees are included (exceptions are marked)
- For customers who send a non-marketable limit order with an exceptional quantity (e.g. odd lot) directly to the NYSE, additional charges may apply. Such orders may need to be processed separately by the specialist on the floor and IB reserves the right to charge a fee for this. If this is the case, IB will contact the affected customers.
- VAT, also referred to as Excise tax, Tax on goods and services, where applicable, will be charged separately for the services concerned.
- Modified orders are handled like a new order (the old order is deleted and replaced). On certain exchanges, this can lead to a renewed minimum fee for modified orders, the same as for a new order. For example: You submit an order for 200 shares, 100 shares are executed. You modify the order for the remaining 100 shares, the order is executed. The minimum fee is charged for both executions. Orders that remain in the system overnight are settled like a new order for the purpose of calculating the order minimums on the following day.
- Partial order executions: in case of same-day (exchange day) execution, no additional costs will be charged. For executions on different trading days, the corresponding order fees will apply again.
- UK: Stamp duty (UK=0.5%, Ireland=1.00%) is charged directly to the customer
- Hong Kong/Shanghai: Stamp duty 0.1% plus 0.0053 % Transaction fees are charged directly (sometimes higher for sell trades). More info
Exceptions (no stamp duty in HongKong, but still transaction fees): Overview - Financial transaction tax: is currently (as of 12/2015) automatically withheld on the purchase of company shares (stocks) in France and Italy (French/Italian companies with defined minimum market capitalization). Please note in your CapTrader account statement the item: Transaction tax. Any deductions will be shown there.
- Savings plans: Would you like to save in ETFs on a regular basis? In addition to the savings plan function in your IB custody account (Account management > Trading > Savings plans), we recommend the flexible savings plans offered by our partner FNZ.
