DAX forecast and analysis: Uptrend knows no bounds

Line chart showing the upward trend of the DAX index from 2021 to 2025, with marked support and resistance levels, moving averages and the RSI indicator at the bottom.

Dear traders, dear stock market friends.

The DAX ended the past trading week up 1.6%, closing at 21,732 points on Friday. This was despite the stock markets coming under significant pressure on Monday after headlines from China regarding the new AI model DeepSeek caused uncertainty among investors.

Headwind from the USA

On Monday last week, there was a sharp sell-off in US technology shares, particularly in the AI sector.

DeepSeek has shaken up the tech industry with its latest AI model, claiming to match or even surpass leading models in the US - and at a fraction of the cost.

Nvidia experienced a massive share price slide on Monday, wiping almost 600 billion US dollars off its market value.

These developments led to increased nervousness on the global markets, which also had an impact on the DAX. Despite this initial setback, however, the DAX was able to gain ground as the week progressed and close the week with a plus.

Relative strength in the DAX

With a performance of 9.2% since the beginning of the year, the DAX has made a brilliant start to the year, clearly outperforming the US markets. In the same period, the Nasdaq 100 rose by just 1.3%, the S&P 500 by 2.3% and the Dow Jones by 4.6 %.

DAX strongly overbought

The massive rally in January even led to the DAX breaking out of the long-term trend channel to the upside, with the index rising above the upper trend channel boundary line.

Both on a weekly and daily basis, the Relative Strength Index (RSI) is signaling an overbought level. The last time the RSI was at such high levels, the DAX took a break and corrected or consolidated.

However, the high level of the RSI should not be seen as a signal for a short trade. It merely signals that there is a high probability that the index will not continue to rise at the same pace and that a correction has become more likely. Overall, the DAX is in a massive uptrend. This should be respected. A correction or consolidation would therefore offer another opportunity for long trades.

Reasons for the strength of the DAX

There are various reasons for the DAX's current outperformance. The ECB last cut its key interest rates to 2.75% on January 30 and further monetary easing is very likely in the current year. This will improve financing conditions for companies. Capital-intensive sectors such as industry and real estate are benefiting in particular.

At the same time, European shares are increasingly attracting capital from abroad, as they are seen as an attractive alternative to the highly valued US technology shares. The new US trade policy and the possible introduction of tariffs could reinforce this trend.

Last but not least, strong company figures in January created a positive mood and were also a price driver for the DAX.
