DAX weekly outlook: Fed meeting, ECB and reporting season ahead

The trading week is likely to be dominated by monetary policy stimuli. Investors should look forward with great anticipation to the Fed meeting this evening. Meanwhile, colleagues from the European Central Bank (ECB) will meet on Thursday. Hopes also remain high that the smouldering trade dispute between the USA and China will be resolved. The ongoing reporting season on both sides of the Atlantic could also continue to provide impetus.

Investors hope for trade deal between the two largest economies

Investors are also looking forward to the expected meeting between US President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi. Trump is expected to meet Xi Jinping on Thursday on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Community summit in South Korea.
„Relations with China are very good. So I think we will achieve a very good result for our country and for the world,“ said Trump.

US Federal Reserve could continue to lower interest rates - Powell in the spotlight this evening

This evening, the focus will be on the Fed's key interest rate decision (19:00). Investors are expecting the US monetary authority to lower interest rates by a quarter of a percentage point. The interest rate band currently stands at 4.00 to 4.25 percent. The CME Group's „Fed Watch Tool“ estimates the chance of this scenario occurring at 99.9 percent. At the final central bank meeting of 2025, the monetary authority could once again lower the key interest rate by 25 basis points (84.8%).

Focus on gross domestic product and ECB meeting on Thursday

At the same time, numerous potential sources of impetus await investors on Thursday. The first estimates of gross domestic product (GDP) for the Federal Republic of Germany are expected at 10:00 and the counterparts for the eurozone at 11:00.

In the afternoon, the values for the US side are also on the program (13:30).

It is also important to keep an eye on the ECB's key interest rate decision at 14:15. The subsequent press conference with Christine Lagarde at 14:45 should be noted.
The ECB could possibly pause interest rates. On September 11, the monetary watchdog left the so-called deposit rate at 2.00 percent.

The final inflation rates for the eurozone (11:00 a.m.) and the core rate for personal consumption expenditure (1:30 p.m.) are also important data on the daily agenda on Friday.

Reporting season on both sides of the Atlantic with a flood of figures

In the reporting season, market participants should keep an eye today on the figures for the past financial quarter from Alphabet (ISIN: US02079K3059), Meta (ISIN: US30303M1027), Microsoft (ISIN: US5949181045) and on Thursday from Amazon (ISIN: US0231351067) and Apple (ISIN: US0378331005).

In Germany, investors today have to digest the figures from Deutsche Bank (DE0005140008), Mercedes-Benz (ISIN: DE0007100000) and BASF (ISIN: DE000BASF111) as well as Adidas (ISIN: DE000A1EWWW0). The car manufacturer Volkswagen (ISIN: DE0007664039) will report on Thursday.
