Muted corporate figures and concerns about the new US policy have driven investors in the first half of the week. Today, Wednesday, the focus is likely to be on new US inflation figures and monetary policy stimuli. One week after the presidential elections in the United States, the relief over a quick election result has given way to a more sober approach. The reporting season could also continue to provide important impetus.

US inflation could pick up - concerns about clouding interest rate cut fantasies

The focus of investors today is on the fresh inflation figures for the United States, which are likely to decide the weal and woe (14:30).
According to the latest estimates, economists expect an October inflation rate of 2.6 percent (compared to the previous month), after 2.4 percent in September.
The Fed's core inflation rate is likely to remain at 3.3%.

Further price data for the USA on Thursday - Powell speech scheduled for 21:00

Important US price data will also be the focus of market players on Thursday (14:30). So-called producer prices may have risen by 0.2% compared to the previous month, after 0% in September.

One week after the Fed's latest meeting, a Powell speech from 21:00 is likely to be the focus of attention. Investors are hoping for new clues as to the future direction of monetary policy in the United States. Around a week ago, the Fed lowered interest rates for the second time since the interest rate turnaround in September. Market participants are currently expecting a further interest rate cut of a quarter of a percentage point at the final meeting of the year on December 18. The interest rate band currently stands at 4.50 to 4.75 percent.

Chinese economic figures and US retail data round off the stock market week

Important Chinese data is likely to set the tone for trading on Friday (03:00). Industrial and retail trade data will be published.

Last but not least, the US retail sales data (2:30 pm) could have an impact in the afternoon.

Further companies from the premier stock exchange league present quarterly results

In the reporting season, the focus today is also on the figures from Allianz, RWE, Siemens Energy and Porsche SE. On Thursday, Deutsche Telekom, E.on, Merk, K+S and Siemens will present their results for the past quarter.
