US weekly outlook: Interest rate fantasies as a driving force - focus on political uncertainties

Following the publication of US inflation data in the past trading week, investors are likely to continue to monitor important Fed comments and economic data for clues on monetary policy. In addition to the US reporting season, which is picking up speed, the latest political events in the US could also keep investors busy.

Following the publication of US inflation data in the past trading week, investors are likely to continue to monitor important Fed comments and economic data for clues on monetary policy. In addition to the US reporting season gaining momentum, the latest political events in the US could also keep market players busy.

Joy over inflation decline in the USA could continue - Powell speech in view

The joy over the decline in inflationary pressure in the US could also resonate into the new week. The data published last Thursday had signaled a stronger slowdown in inflation than expected. At 3.3 percent, the so-called core rate rose less sharply than economists had previously estimated (3.4 percent). In this context, investors are increasingly fantasizing about interest rate cuts.

As in the previous trading week, a speech by Fed Chairman Jerome Powell is likely to attract attention. The Fed Chairman will speak on Monday evening (18:30). His colleague Daly from the San Francisco Fed will follow at 22:35.

US retail sales and "Beige Book" could move the needle

On Tuesday, the first item on the agenda will be new US retail sales (14:30). In this case, no change is expected after a rise of 0.1% in May (year-on-year).

In the middle of the week, market participants are likely to focus on Fed speeches by Barkin (Richmond/15:00) and Waller (Governor/15:35) before the publication of the so-called "Beige Book" (20:00). The Beige Book provides a picture of the current US economic situation.

Investors should also keep in mind the meeting of the European Central Bank (ECB) on Thursday, even if no major surprises are expected.

Further speeches by Logan (Dallas/19:45) on Thursday evening and on Friday with Daly (Governor/00:05), Bowman (01:45), Williams (New York/16:40) and Bostic (Atlanta/19:00) round off the trading week from the perspective of the economic data calendar.

BlackRock and Goldman Sachs present their quarterly figures at the beginning of the week

High-caliber names are already waiting in the US reporting season on Monday with BlackRock and Goldman Sachs. Bank of America and Morgan Stanley will follow on Tuesday. In the middle of the week, Johnson & Johnson and Netflix, among others, will report on the past quarter's business performance on Thursday.

Donald Trump is injured at election rally

Donald Trump was injured at a campaign event in the state of Pennsylvania last weekend. The attack on the 78-year-old is also likely to be a topic of conversation on the markets. On November 5, 2024, the United States will elect the future US president.
