Between interest rate issues, AI doubts and crisis hotspots, investors currently lack the decisive thread. The market is currently waiting for a signal that will restore confidence. The fact that price pressures in the USA are more pronounced than expected catches some investors off guard and leaves hopes for a continuation of the recent record-breaking rally in the background. US stock markets are likely to remain caught in the crossfire of a cocktail of monetary policy uncertainties, geopolitical risks and growing doubts about the AI boom. The markets are currently particularly struggling to assess when the US central bank could take the next interest rate move and how strongly the inflation risks are now affecting the US central bank’s decisions.

September inflation rate of 3.7 percent – Inflation in the USA higher than expected

As the U.S. Department of Labor reported on Wednesday afternoon, consumer prices rose by 3.7 percent in September compared to the same month last year, which was higher than expected (3.6 percent), after 3.4 percent in August. The core rate of inflation, which excludes the drivers of energy and food prices, also rose by 0.1 percentage point to 2.6 percent. The recently easing concerns about interest rates could thus have gained momentum again.

US producer prices are expected to send out monetary policy impulses – retail data also in focus

Investors will also face US price data today. US producer prices are expected at 14:30, which are expected to provide important inflation signals. Compared to the previous month, economists expect a rise of 0.5 percent, after 0.4 percent last month.

In addition, US retail sales are likely to provide an impetus. Compared to the previous month, these figures could have increased by only 0.3 percent, which is significantly less than the same period last year (1.2 percent).
