hit refresh by satya nadella (2)

by Satya Nadella deals with the transformation of the software and technology company Microsoft from the perspective of the company itself. This is because the author has also been CEO of Microsoft since 2014 and is accompanied by Bill Gates in the foreword. This is what makes this book so charming, although you shouldn't expect to learn any company secrets.
In terms of content, it is about the entrepreneurial change that Microsoft must undergo in the technological transformation of our time. Artificial intelligence, mixed reality and quantum computing: all topics that the technology group must face up to and to which not only employees but also shareholders are demanding a promising response from the CEO.

In the book, the latter explores the question of how people, organizations and entire societies can and often must change as a result of external circumstances. How, caught up in the perpetual pursuit of new ideas, new energy, and continued relevance of renewal, they should perhaps also learn to press the "refresh" button. To pause for a moment and focus on shared values.

First and foremost, it's about people and how one of our most important qualities, empathy, is becoming increasingly relevant. In a world where technological progress is turning the status quo upside down like never before in ever faster cycles.

Satya Nadella shares his views on amazing research breakthroughs. He describes his fascinating childhood in India, his emigration to the USA and how he developed into a leader over the years. He then gives us insights into his mind as the current Microsoft CEO. He tells us how Microsoft has rediscovered its soul and how, in the process, the corporate culture has changed just as much as the business relationships in an industry characterized by merciless competition. In many cases, competition turned into cooperation, which benefited everyone involved.

A woman reads a book and leans against a car on a sunny day; a road and a landscape can be seen in the background.

Finally, Nadella continues with how, in his opinion, trust in the digital world can be regained despite many scandals about data protection and horror scenarios about automation. What moral principles should apply in software design and how can economic growth be achieved for all?

In the end, however, I think more could have been made of all these exciting topics. In particular, the combination of an interesting biography and a corporate presentation of a technology group that has undergone an enormous transformation actually offers the material for a really good book.

There is certainly a lot to take away in terms of content, especially investors interested in technology stocks or employees and entrepreneurs in this industry will get their money's worth. Especially towards the end, when the author started to philosophize about the digital transformation and the marketing aspect of Microsoft faded into the background a bit. But even in the first part, the reader gets good insights into the thoughts and workings of the company's leadership, not forgetting that the PR department certainly had an eye on it.
