In our stock country article series, today we introduce you to Denmark. The most important stock exchange in the country is the Copenhagen Stock Exchange, which has been part of the Nasdaq Group since 2008 and is therefore also known as NASDAQ OMX Copenhagen. Denmark's leading index is the OMX Copenhagen 20, which lists companies from the pharmaceutical, medical, biotechnology and several other sectors. Ambu develops, produces and distributes medical equipment for hospitals, clinics and emergency services worldwide. Founded in 1937, the company's most famous invention is the resuscitator bag, which was developed by Ambu in 1956 in collaboration with Danish anesthesiologist Henning Ruben. Today, Ambu offers diverse healthcare solutions in the areas of visualization, anesthesia, patient monitoring and diagnostics, as well as products for endoscopy, neurology and cardiology.

Vestas Wind Systems is one of Denmark's best-known companies, especially among shareholders. Vestas was already founded at the end of the 19th century and is today one of the world's most important manufacturers of wind turbines. A look at the long-term chart shows that the stock has generated tremendous returns for investors over the past decade. At the time of writing this article, the stock is in a correction and around 40% below the highs.

Novo Nordisk is a multinational pharmaceutical company and, with a market capitalization of the equivalent of around USD 250 billion, is not only one of the heavyweights on the Danish stock market, but also one of the 50 most valuable companies in the world. Since its founding in 1923, Novo Nordisk's main goal has been to combat diabetes and other chronic diseases such as obesity and hemophilia. The company's pipeline reflects this, making progress on several drug development projects. The company's success in recent years is also evident when looking at the long-term stock chart.

Carlsberg is a well-known beer brand and the third largest brewery in the world. The share price of the Copenhagen-based company has come under heavy pressure in recent weeks due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Carlsberg has announced its intention to withdraw from Russia and sell its business there. The stock is currently trading around 30 % below its highs and, with a dividend yield of over 3%, may offer an attractive long-term buying opportunity.

A.P. Møller - Mærsk - Maersk for short - is one of the world's largest container shipping companies. The Copenhagen-based company offers international container transportation services in over 130 countries. Maersk's business has recently been strong and the share price has more than tripled since the lows at the beginning of 2020.
