US weekly outlook: Greenland dispute in focus - reporting season continues

In the new trading week, in addition to the developments regarding Greenland, investors will continue to look at important economic data and the reporting season, which continues to gather pace. Following Trump's latest tariff threat, investors are likely to become somewhat more cautious again. It should be noted that the stock exchanges in the USA will be closed today (Monday) due to the Martin Luther King Day holiday.

In the new trading week, in addition to the developments regarding Greenland, investors will continue to look at important economic data and the reporting season, which continues to gather pace. Following Trump's latest tariff threat, investors may become a little more cautious again.
It should be noted that the stock exchange doors in the USA will remain closed today (Monday) due to the Martin Luther King Day holiday.

Donald Trump threatens additional tariffs against Germany and other countries

US President Donald Trump has threatened additional tariffs against Germany and other countries in the Greenland conflict. In addition to Germany, countries such as Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, France, the UK and the Netherlands have been named. Trump recently reiterated his claim to power over the Arctic island and did not rule out military means. The European Union, on the other hand, referred to the sovereignty of the island and rejected the US head of state's claims to power.

The dispute over Greenland is likely to keep investors busy in the coming trading weeks, especially as there is no sign of an agreement between the USA and Greenland or Denmark and NATO.

Conflict in Iran could catch up with investors at any time - uncertainty likely to persist

The conflict in Iran could also keep investors busy. Trump recently spoke out in favor of a change of government in Iran. The supreme leader of the republic called him a „criminal“. Iran, on the other hand, had warned the US of the drastic consequences of an attack on Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. „Any aggression against the supreme leader of our country is tantamount to an all-out war against the Iranian nation,“ said Peseshkian on X.

Geopolitical tensions could therefore catch up with market participants at any time.

GDP growth rate and US price data in focus on Thursday

On Thursday, the focus will initially be on the growth rate (final/compared to the previous month) for US gross domestic product (14:30).

The weekly initial claims for US unemployment benefits should also be noted at the same time.

The core rate for personal consumption expenditure is on the daily agenda in the afternoon (16:00), which could provide important monetary policy impetus.

Purchasing managers ahead on Friday - reporting season could provide impetus again and again

Friday is dominated by the publication of new purchasing managers (S&P Global). These indices are expected for the services, manufacturing and „total“ sectors.

As the reporting season continues to gather pace, attention will turn to Netflix (ISIN: US64110L1061) on Tuesday, Johnson & Johnson (ISIN: US4781601046) on Wednesday and Intel (ISIN: US4581401001) on Thursday.
