US weekly outlook: US price data in focus - risk of recession under scrutiny

After a turbulent trading week, investors are likely to focus in particular on the publication of new US price data. In addition to a number of speeches by Fed representatives, the focus will also be on the ongoing reporting season.

After a turbulent trading week, investors are likely to focus in particular on the publication of new US price data. In addition to a number of speeches by Fed representatives, the focus will also be on the ongoing reporting season.

In principle, investors must continue to prepare themselves for increased volatility. If, for example, US recession worries pick up speed again, this could have a negative impact on general stock market sentiment.

US producer prices and core rate of inflation likely to lose momentum

From the perspective of the economic data calendar, things should get exciting on Tuesday with new data on the US Producer Price Inflation Index at 14:30. An increase of 0.1% is expected, after 0.2% in June (year-on-year comparison).

A speech by Raphael Bostic from the Atlanta Fed is likely to attract interest from 7:15 pm.

New inflation data for the United States could decide the weal and woe on Wednesday. Economists expect the Fed's core inflation rate to come in at 3.2%, after 3.3% in the previous month (compared to the same month last year). For the consumer price rate, including the drivers energy and food, a rate of 2.9% is expected in the same period (previously: 3.0%).

US retail and industrial data provide indications of the US economy

Thursday's US retail sales are likely to be exciting (14:30).

New data on industrial production will follow at 15:15. Investors are likely to scan these figures for economic clues.

Fed representative Harker from the Philadelphia branch speaks at 19:10.

On Friday, the preliminary data on Michigan consumer confidence is on the agenda (16:00). A speech by Goolsbee from the Chicago Fed will round off the trading week.

Even if no US stock market heavyweights present their figures this week, there could always be important impetus from corporate data. For example, Cisco Systems will present its figures on Wednesday and Deere & Company, Walmart and Applied Materials on Thursday.
