A busy trading floor with people working at computer stations and large electronic stock exchange boards displaying data overhead, including the latest figures for the DAX weekly outlook.

In addition to monetary policy on the other side of the Atlantic, investors are focusing in particular on the eagerly awaited meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin. Investors are likely to be looking for signs of détente between the two economies and, above all, signals of peace with regard to the Ukraine-Russia conflict. Last but not least, the current reporting season is likely to keep investors on their toes.

Investors eagerly await planned meeting between Trump and Putin in Alaska

Trump and Putin are scheduled to meet on Friday in the US state of Alaska. In the run-up to the meeting, investors may tend to keep their feet still. Trump recently said at a press conference that he first wanted to see what Putin had in mind. The US president is aiming for a ceasefire and the "best deal" for both sides, it was said.

Inflation data could fuel interest rate cut fantasies - consumer prices lower than expected

Market participants are likely to be driven by the US inflation data published on Tuesday, which at 2.7% (compared to the same month of the previous year) was as high as in June and therefore below expectations (2.8%). However, the core rate of inflation, which excludes the drivers energy and food, stood at 3.1% and was therefore above estimates (3.0%).

The CME Group's "Fed Watch Tool" currently estimates the chance of a rate cut of 25 basis points at the Fed's upcoming meeting on September 17, 2025 at 96.2 percent.

Focus on US producer prices on Thursday - further monetary policy signals possible

From an economic calendar perspective, Thursday is likely to be another exciting day with important US price data. The so-called producer prices for the world's largest economy are expected (14:30).

Initial claims for US unemployment benefits are usually published at the same time, which are likely to be in the spotlight, especially after the poor jobs data at the beginning of the month.

Chinese economic data and US data close the week

The week will close with new economic data on industrial production from China (04:00).

This will be followed in the afternoon by US retail sales (14:30) and preliminary consumer confidence from the University of Michigan (16:00).

Reporting season should provide further impetus

Today, investors have to digest the figures for the past financial quarter from E.ON (ISIN: DE000ENAG999), Porsche Automobil Holding (ISIN: DE000PAH0038) and Brenntag (ISIN: DE000A1DAHH0).

On Thursday, the focus will be on the figures of RWE (ISIN: DE0007037129).
