US President Donald Trump recently announced on his Truth Social platform that Fed Governor Lisa Cook would be dismissed from her position with immediate effect. The reason given by Trump was that there were reasons to believe that she had made untrue statements in one or more mortgage contracts. "Her behavior demonstrates gross negligence in financial transactions, which calls into question her competence and trustworthiness as a financial supervisor," Trump said.
Cook, on the other hand, said that Trump had no authority to fire her.
