S&P 500: Between Iran concerns and corporate earnings – SpaceX stock in focus

The record fever on the S&P 500 continues for now. Investors on both sides of the Atlantic are betting on a diplomatic truce between Washington and Tehran. The record highs in the S&P 500 primarily reflect confidence in diplomatic progress, particularly a reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. Investors currently tend to count their chickens before they hatch. The confusion of the past weeks and months should serve as a cautionary tale against premature optimism. Once again, today's focus is on SpaceX stock.

SpaceX stock in focus after quarterly figures – Elon Musk causes a stir

The aerospace company SpaceX (ISIN: US84615Q1031) has published its quarterly results for the first time since its recent record IPO. While revenues were able to exceed expectations—and overall losses were also lower—the losses in two of the three business divisions evidently alienated some investors. After the US stock market closed, the SpaceX share price had dropped by approximately 8 percent. Elon Musk's statements are also likely to have caused a stir.

SpaceX increases its revenue and profit in the second fiscal quarter

In the second fiscal quarter ending in June, SpaceX increased its revenue by 92 percent year-over-year to $7.81 billion, thereby almost halving its net loss (from $1.0 billion to $541 million). Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) increased by 191 percent from $1.2 to $3.5 billion.

For comparison: In 2025, revenue in the „Space“ division was 4.1 billion dollars, which corresponded to 22 percent of group revenue. The operating result was -657 million dollars. In the „Connectivity“ sector, revenue stood at 11.4 billion dollars (a 60 percent share of group revenue) and the operating result was +4.4 billion dollars.

The „AI“ segment reported the lowest revenue at $3.2 billion (17 percent of group revenue), and the operating loss was $6.4 billion.

SpaceX looks ahead with optimism – SpaceX stock still declines

“We closed the second quarter with $100 billion in cash, cash equivalents, and marketable securities, as well as a backlog of $47.5 billion,“ said Bret Johnsen, Chief Financial Officer of SpaceX. „This financial strength gives us significant leeway to invest in Starship, Starlink satellites for broadband and cellular services, and our AI platform, while simultaneously maintaining a disciplined framework for long-term capital allocation.“

Starlink as a revenue driver – Hopes pinned on Starship

In the "Starlink" division, revenue in the past quarter climbed by around two-thirds year-over-year to approximately 4.3 billion dollars. Among others, several airlines use the internet from space. Operating income rose by 80 percent to approximately 1.66 billion dollars. The number of customers climbed from 10.3 to 12 million.

According to Gwynne Shotwell, a top operations executive, satellites could be used, among other things, to cover current areas without mobile internet, it was stated. In addition, Musk noted that the current Falcon 9 rocket transports approximately 2,500 metric tons of payload into space per year. It was stated that in a year, Starship will „probably“ be seen launching „at least once a day“ and perhaps even more often.

Elon Musk projects trillion-dollar revenue for SpaceX

Elon Musk has also projected an annual revenue of one trillion US dollars for his company SpaceX by 2030, which is one year earlier than previously stated, according to Musk in a conference call with analysts. SpaceX went public in mid-June with proceeds of 75 billion dollars, which equates to the most successful IPO in history. At that time, the company was valued at around 1.8 trillion dollars. Shortly after the record IPO, the share price rose to about 225 dollars per share.

From a technical chart perspective, the issue price of 135 dollars is likely to remain significant. The low of the move at just under 105 dollars per unit could act as a potential support zone on the downside.
